During my 20+ years of working as a Realtor and helping first time home buyers I have learned and seen a lot.  Here are four things you must understand about buying your first home. I have left, probably the most important tip until the last.

1 Not planning for the future

  • In terms of size of home- future needs of themselves and their family

  • How long going to stay in home-what happens if they get a job transfer or wish to move? would they keep and rent?

2. Not fully understanding the costs involved in buying a home

  • Closing costs including fees to county and state, title work, appraisers, inspections etc

3. Not understanding the running costs of owning a home

  • Insurances

  • Real Estate Taxes

  • HOA/Condo Fees

4. Not saving money for a “rainy day”

  • Need new roof

  • New Major appliances, for example air conditioning unit, or hot water heater

These are just a few of the mistakes that I have seen first time home buyers make. It is my goal to help you avoid this mishaps and start your homeownership in a positive joyfilled way.
